A comparative study on antioxidant properties of yellow and purple passion fruit seed oil

  • Antioxidants of yellow and purple passion fruit seed oil were analyzed.Two kinds of passion fruit seed oil contained flavonoids,β-carotene and vitamin E and the highest one were flavonoids,for about 45 μg/m L. Total phenol content of yellow passion fruit seed oil and purple passion fruit seed oil were 16.69,15.82 mg GAE/kg,respectively.The antioxidant activities of two kinds of passion fruit seed oil were compared by measuring the iron reduction capability and the scavenging rates of DPPH·,O-2· and ·OH.The ability of reducing ferric and scavenging DPPH·of purple passion fruit seed oil was stronger than the yellow one,while the ability of scavenging O-2·and ·OH was opposite.The highest scavenging ability of two kinds of passion fruit seed oil for DPPH· were more than 84%,for O-2·were higher than 80%.This research revealed that two kinds of passion fruit seed oil had strong antioxidant activity.
