Abstract
To study the hypoglycemic effect of the compounds of seaweed dietary fiber, diabetic mice model was established by intravenous injection of alloxan (i.v.) . Model mice were divided randomly into 5 groups:high group, middle group, low dose group, model control group, positive control group. Blank control group was added additionally, which used orthoglycemic mice instead. Corresponding compounds were administrated intragastrically (i.g.) , positive control group was intragastrically administrated with metformin hydrochloride 200mg/kg, model control group and blank control group used physiological saline instead. 30 days later, fasting blood glucose (FBG) , oral glucose tolerance (OGTT) , total cholesterol (TC) , high density lipoprotein (HDL-C) , low density lipoprotein (LDL-C) and triglyceride (TG) were tested. Mice pancreas were gathered by the surgery method for pathology examination. Compared with model group, FBG was extraordinary significantly decreased (p <0.01) and the weight loss was significantly alleviated (p <0.05) by high or middle dose of compounds. OGTT was remarkably improved, HDL-C was remarkably elevated and TG was remarkably decreased by middle dose of compounds. HDL-C was extraordinary remarkably elevated, LDL-C and TG was extraordinary significantly decreased by high dose of compounds. Pathology examination revealed that the damage of β cells was effectively alleviated by high or middle dose of compounds. In conclusion, fasting blood glucose of diabetic mice could be decreased effectively and β- cell damage could be alleviated by the compounds of seaweed dietary fiber.
