Abstract
The effect of carbon source, nitrogen source, pH as well as temperature on the growth of a self-isolated Chlorella sp. and the production of lutein were investigated. Results showed that glucose was the best carbon source and potassium nitrate was the best nitrogen source to support sustained and rapid growth of this strain of Chlorella sp. as well as lutein production. Results of optimization were as follows:the glucose concentration was 20g·L-1, potassium nitrate concentration was 1.25g·L-1, initial pH was 6.0 and temperature was 30℃. In this condition the maximal lutein concentration was 12.27mg·L-1.
